Oral Pathology

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are specially trained to perform biopsies and excisions of lesions in the maxillofacial region. Any alteration of the color or texture of the mucosa (soft tissue in the mouth) may be an indicator to have the site evaluated. Oral lesions can include benign tumors and cancers, growths of tooth origin and lesions that arise in the salivary glands. Oral lesions may not always need to be managed surgically. If you are experiencing pain or symptoms which cause you concern early detection and treatment of oral lesions can greatly improve a patients prognosis as well as results of surgical treatment.
